NetworkRV Partners With New Distributor TechnoRV

Fort Lauderdale, FL: NetworkRV has partnered with TechnoRV, a leading distributor for RV products.  The SoftStartRV™ air conditioner accessory product created by NetworkRV will now be distributed by TechnoRV across North America.

We are excited to welcome TechnoRV and their organization to the NetworkRV family.  With nearly 50 years of combined experience, we share a similar philosophy of excellence and unwavering commitment to customer service,” said NetworkRV Co-Founder Doug Curtis.

“Since this past summer, we’ve seen thousands of families acquire an interest in the RV lifestyle as they explore fun outdoor adventures during the pandemic. Our new TechnoRV distributor and retailer enables us to serve more RVers and help them stay cool anywhere even in low power or dry camping environments.”

As a full-time RVer himself, TechnoRV President Eric Johnson has built the company into a nationally recognized brand that puts the customer first.

Eric Johnson noted, “NetworkRV’s product development team delivered new technology with their SoftStartRV™ product. This enables RVers to start up and operate one or two air conditioners on their RV without overwhelming the available electrical supply. This easy-to-install product allows RVers to run two rooftop air conditioners on 30 amps of service or one air conditioner on 20 amps of service, regardless of whether it is on shore power or delivered via a generator.  No more tripped circuit breakers or overloaded generators. For those dry campers out there that choose not to lug around a heavy generator, this is a game changer.”

TechnoRV will showcase the SoftStartRV along with their new product line at the Florida RV Super Show, which begins January 13th at the state fairgrounds in Tampa, Florida. Show attendees can find TechnoRV and NetworkRV at Building B, booth 436.

About NetworkRV: NetworkRV is a leader in the RV industry, providing a mobile comfort experience for RVers across North America and Australia. The company manufactures thousands of SoftStartRVs, their RV air conditioner accessory product, to consumers and dealers.

  • The Best Soft Start For 5th Wheels | Top Soft Starters For A Camper Or RV

The Best Soft Start For 5th Wheels | Top Soft Starters For A Camper Or RV

What’s The Best Soft Start For 5th Wheels?

Top Soft Starters For Your Camper + RV

Many consumers and aspiring RVers may opt for a 5th wheel over a class A, class B, or class C motor home  for a variety of reasons – whether it be the flexibility it provides for campers, the clever use of the space which gives 5th wheelers more comfort on the road, or the lifetime value of a 5th wheel. But how do you optimize your 5th wheel to get the most out of your life on the road? One of the most consistent challenges 5th wheelers face is keeping their 5th wheel cool and comfortable on the road.

Due to their size, most 5th wheels, like many class A or class C RVs, require more than one air conditioner. Unfortunately, two air conditioners can mean more problems and maintenance if not properly optimized. Because of this, more 5th wheelers than ever are opting to install soft starters on their air conditioners.

When it comes to keeping your 5th wheel or RV cool, what is the best soft starter on the market to install into your 5th wheel? In this article, we’ll break down the differences between the two soft starters on the market for 5th wheels, SoftStartRV and EasyStart. You have the power to travel anywhere in your 5th wheel, so let’s make sure you have the proper gear to live the lifestyle you deserve on the road.

The One Problem Every 5th Wheeler Knows And How To Solve It

You’ve spent a long day on the road, and finally you’ve reached your campsite. You’re ready to park, get set up, and unwind in comfort after a long travel day. However, you soon realize your campground, like most, only provides enough power for a 30-amp connection.

Even though you have 2 air conditioners that you’d like to use in your 5th wheel, you can only start ONE A/C unit because of the initial power spike to get the second A/C started. Suddenly only half of your 5th wheel is getting cool, and the other half feels just as hot and sweaty as you would feel outside.

Why spend all the money on a 5th wheel only to feel like you’re camping in a tent?

SoftStartRV solves this problem. Once installed into your 5th wheel AC, the SoftStartRV reduces startup power demand by up to 70%. With two SoftStartRV soft start kits installed in your 5th wheel, one for each air conditioner, you can optimize both of the ACs you paid for when you purchased your 5th wheel.

Not only does this allow your air conditioners to keep a more even, cool temperature throughout the 5th wheel, but it allows your generator to function much more smoothly, without having to run multiple times throughout your stay. This means less noise of your generator starting up during the night, so you can enjoy a breezy night’s sleep in your 5th wheel uninterrupted. Plus  – you can even boondock or moochdock more easily in your RV.

If you own a 5th wheel, you probably chose to travel in a 5th wheel over a Class A motor home, Class C motor home, or other trailer because of the excellent value for the price. After all, a 5th wheel can actually feel quite spacious for the price. 5th wheel and RV owners know that keeping a 5th wheel cool and comfortable can get expensive.

What Is The Cost Of A SoftStartRV Vs. An EasyStart?

SoftStartRV and EasyStart both appear to cost the same for a single soft start. HOWEVER – 5th wheelers will typically need to purchase at least 2 soft starters, one for each air conditioner.

The purchase of two EasyStarts does not provide you everything you need to successfully install them with your RV or 5th wheel ACs.

Price Breakdown: What Is Included In The Price Of A SoftStartRV Vs. An EasyStart?

By purchasing an EasyStart for your RV, you get:

    1. No install kit
      • The install kit is necessary to actually connect the soft starter to your air conditioners. Just like products that don’t include the batteries, a soft starter without an install kit is useless. EasyStart requires you to spend an additional $9-10 per installation kit. Meaning that you’ll need to pay an additional $18-20 for two installation kits after already buying the two EasyStart soft starts.
      • Plus, if you buy them, then you have to spend at least 2 hours running to hardware stores to find all the 10 different items, such as connectors, screws, tie wraps, etc.
    2.  No free shipping
      • Despite shelling out the cash on two EasyStarts and additional costs for the two install kits, SHIPPING IS NOT FREE. Get ready to spend an additional shipping fee, even for regular, non-expedited ground shipping.
Depending on your location is generally $23-25 for shipping 2 via UPS ground shipping.
    3. Restocking Fees:
      • Can’t get your EasyStart to work with your 5th wheel? Have problems installing your soft starter? Have buyers remorse?  You’ll need to pay a 25% restocking fee. This will cost you $74.75 PER soft starter, meaning if you return 2 soft starters, you will need to pay $149.50 for a product you couldn’t even use.
    4. Return Shipping Fees
      •  Don’t Forget: EasyStart does not cover the cost of return shipping, meaning you’ll need to spend between $23-25 for UPS per soft starter to return it depending on your location.
    5. No LIVE Rooftop Tech Support
      • Once you’ve purchased an EasyStart, installation is left up to you. If you have a problem installing, you can only rely on Micro Air to provide installation instructions on their website, or you may have to search through a few installation Youtube videos and hope you can solve the problem.
      • EasyStart does not provide any LIVE tech support. No professional to ask questions, little or no support to walk you through the process while in your RV. This can be a frustrating experience for even the most tech savvy RVer or 5th wheeler. Without the necessary gear (like installation connectors and screws), LIVE tech support, or friendly professional guidance, how can EasyStart 5th wheel customers have the helpful guidance to work through any RV installation issues?

With SoftStartRV, you pay $299 for 1 soft starter, or 2 soft starters for $598 and receive:

Rv, start, softstartrv, air, board, power, easystart, trailer, lifestyle, travel, tech, gear

For many owners of a 5th wheel, Airstream, RV, Class A trailer, Class C trailer, or motor home, getting your hands dirty is part of the fun of life on the road. This is why many RVers opt for the “DIY” installation process with their soft starters. SoftStartRV keeps the installation simple with a ton of resources at your fingertips. SoftStartRV provides installation instructions, diagrams, FAQs, video tutorials, and of course, LIVE rooftop tech support to walk you through your installation step by step while in your RV or 5th wheel.

Now, we also provide answers to commonly asked questions on soft start installation we receive from our 5th wheel and RV customers.

FAQ #1: Do I need more than one soft starter for my 5th wheel?

Yes. If your 5th wheel has 2, or even 3 air conditioners, you’ll need a soft starter for each unit. Otherwise, you may find your family all crowded in the one area of your 5th wheel that stays cool. Each air conditioner needs to be optimized with it’s own soft starter in order to function best.

FAQ #2: How to install a soft starter in my 5th wheel easily?

We can help! With tech support just a phone call away, we give you the power to install your soft starters yourself, with a tech professional guiding you every step of the way LIVE. Each soft start takes about 20-30 minutes to install in total.

Mobile RV techs or your local RV service center can also install the soft start if you prefer to have someone else do it.

Check out this video testimonial from our  customer Levi. He explains how easy he was able to install his SoftStartRV into his RV with our live tech support.

FAQ #3: Will A SoftStartRv Work In A Class A Motor Home, A Class C Motor Home, And A 5th Wheel?

Yes. RVs and 5th wheels air conditioners both function with the SoftStartRV.

FAQ #4: How Will A SoftStartRV Give Me More Freedom On The Road?

Check out this review from RV Life: “SoftStartRV Air Conditioning Soft Start Kit Means A/C Freedom At Any 30-Amp Site – Now, you can take your motorhome, 5th-wheel, or travel trailer equipped with multiple air-conditioning units virtually anywhere and enjoy camping, hiking, canoeing, fishing, or just hanging around the campsite, knowing that when the day is done you can relax in the cool comfort of your rig, even on a 30-amp connection. No more hunting for the relatively few 50-amp sites at state parks. “

FAQ #5: Does A Soft Start Negatively Affect My RV Air Conditioner?

No. There is no compromise for installing a SoftStartRV, you get improved startability with the reduced current starts. RV tech expert Mike Sokol explains the technical questions in his video review of the SoftStartRV.

Tech Experts Explain Why You Need A Soft Starter In Your 5th Wheel Or RV

Mike Sokol from RV Electricity is an electrical and professional sound expert with 40+ years in the industry.  He’s joined the club of customers who use and recommend the Soft Start RV and taken control of his RV A/C power. In this video, he reviews why SoftStartRV is the ideal accessory for your RV air conditioner, whether you’re camping, living the RV lifestyle, or bringing your gear on the road. You can also have a lot of RV fun with boondocking or moochdocking.

Check out more of our FAQs  on 5th wheels like…

I have a fifth wheel with 2 15000 BTU A/C units. Can I reduce my generator size if I installed your SoftStartRV?

“Yes, you can install the SoftStartRV and reduce the size of your generator and you would even be able to operate both 15k BTU A/Cs on a 30A utility hookup.

Operating 2  x 15k BTU A/Cs would not leave a lot of capacity for other applications on a 30A cord. You’ll need to allocate about 1800W for each of your A/C 15k systems. Estimate about 3600 W for both. You will also want to budget capacity for your converter/battery charger, water heater, microwave and your refrigerator.

The best solution is that you won’t need any extra generator capacity to make up the startup spike of your 2 A/Cs because SoftStartRV reduces the starting surge.” (Click here to read more FAQS).

Hear From RVers and 5th Wheelers Just Like You

Start your journey on the road with SoftStartRV, the top brand for RV soft starters on the market.

This is terrific! I bought the SoftStartRV and installed it in my Dometic 15000 BTU A/C on my 5th Wheel! I was having a small problem wiring it and called the customer service line. Surprisingly, a real person answered. He explained the wiring process step by step. Thank you, My 2000-watt Honda generator started my A/C easily. A smart decision I made on getting this unit. Thank You!
    – Brian

We just purchased a new to us fifth wheel and quickly realized we needed soft starts in order to use our 3500 generator. I ordered these from SoftStartRV directly and they shipped the same day! I had them in my hands within two days, wow! I installed both in about two hours along with the help of the videos SoftStartRV published to YouTube. They worked great when trying these out with the generator tonight! Thanks SoftStartRV!
    – Wilson

The SoftStart RV was easy to install and works just like stated. Works perfectly with one generator to run the air conditioning on my 30 ft. fifth wheel. Completely satisfied with my purchase.
    – Sam

Easy install on both Dometic Duo Therm, AC units on our fifth wheel. The rear AC unit is 15,000 BTU and the front AC unit is 13,500 BTU. Both units now operate on a 30 amp service at the same.
    – Rick

I purchased three of the units for my fifth wheel. After reviewing the AC wiring diagrams and determining the wiring connections needed, the units were installed with very little difficulty.

Bottom line: Works as advertised, installation (with tech support) was easy, wife is happy.
Back story: 2011 Montana 50 amp 5th Wheel, 1 Dometic Brisk II AC unit. Couldn’t afford to screw this up financially or failure in installation, so I opened a support ticket ahead of receiving the unit. Received a call a couple of hours later, sent some pictures back via phone & continued the discussion with plenty of assurance that he (Danny) would walk me right thru it after it arrived.

Day of installation I sent a text & within 30 minutes received a telephone call ready to calmly & casually talked me thru… patiently waiting while I made the necessary male & female connections & testing once completed. It took about an hour, but the friendliness & professionalism made the time fly by. I would definitely recommend this product.
    – Laurence

I purchased this to be able to run my Nuwa 5th Wheel trailer 15000 BTU air conditioner using my Generac 2000i generator. I installed the SoftStartRV without any problems. I did call support at SoftStartRV once during the install and got a quick solution to my problem. Missed one of the required wire connections. Now my generator handles the air conditioner easily! No more hot nights in my trailer wishing I could run the air! Great product and great customer support.
    David

Ran into a bit of an issue since my RV AC has a solid state control and didn’t line up with any of the self help videos. Submitted a ticket and within a couple of hours Danny called me and walked me through everything. I can now run my big AC on my 5th wheel camper with my Westinghouse 2500 igen generator. Very happy.
    – Daniel

I did a little research on the SoftstartRV after seeing it on the RV ODD COUPLE YouTube channel. Replacing the AC starting coils and condensers with the SoftStartRV to prevent a large initial draw made sense. I saw very little negative reviews and decided to try it.

It was fairly easy to install (other than being nervous about cutting wires on my AC unit) and I was done in about an hour.

I tested it using a 50amp to 15amp adapter and plugged in the 5th wheel to a garage outlet. The AC started up worked perfectly and didn’t trip the RV surge protecter (something that ALWAYS happened before). Next I tested it with a Yamaha inverter, same results, AC ran fine no surge, no trips. I am very happy with the SoftStartRV.

While the inside of house was being painted, we spent the day in the RV with our dogs while hooked up to 30 amp service. The A/C s ran smoothly to cool the rig while we also used other electrical appliances. It is great feeling that we know that we can operate a 40ft 5th wheel on 30 amp service. A good investment add-on to our RVing life style.
    – Roger

Can’t believe how great this device works. I don’t even hear the AC come on. Not to mention how happy I am to be able to run the AC on a small Honda 2200i generator and not have to lug around a bulky and heavy generator. I have a 34 foot 5th wheel with two Coleman 13.5 BTU air conditioners.

Installation was easy as the instructions depicted. Had one simple question which was answered within an hour by a wonderful gentleman named Phil. Should have ordered the SoftStartRV a long time ago. I would highly recommend the Soft StartRV to anyone that has an RV. Thanks for such a great product.
    – Sergio

Amazing device! First read about on the RV Travel newsletter. Did some further research on the web and bought 2 units. Have them installed on our 2013 Heartland Bighorn. We currently are parked in our daughters driveway with a 30 amp service and have both AC’s running. Once I figured out which Dometic Duo-Therm units i had on the 5th wheel, the installation was quite simple.

The SoftStart website was awesome for support and the installation videos were quite useful. Would and have recommended these devices to family members and friends. Thanks

Glossary of Terms For RV + 5th Wheel Owners

    A/C

Your air conditioner, or A/C as it’s abbreviated, circulates the air within your RV, 5th wheel, Casita, Airstream, trailer, or motor home. SoftStartRV serves as an accessory that works with your RV air conditioner to provide a more evenly cooled space, that starts smoothly and runs with the power needed to keep you cool.

    Airstream

Airstream is a popular brand of travel trailer built out of aluminum, on the road since the 1930s. It is one of the top known RV brands in the industry.

    Capacitor

capacitor is a device inside an air conditioning unit. It is small, cylindrical and it supplies and controls electrical energy. The capacitor provides a high-voltage jolt to the blower motor, compressor, and fan motor. The high voltage jolt is around 400 to 600 volts.

    Casita

Casita is a top brand of small travel trailers that are easily towed with small cars and trucks. The Casita brand was established in 1983.

    Class A Motorhome

A Class A Motorhome is defined as a conventional motorhome. It’s the largest and most luxurious of the motorized RVs.

    Class B Motorhome

Class B Motorhomes are often referred as camper vans. Best suited for small groups, they’re smaller and more fuel efficient than Class C motorhomes.

    Class C Motorhome

A Class C motorhome is similar to a traditional automobile. It looks like a van from the front and is built with a cab or a cut-away chassis.

    5th Wheel / Fifth Wheel

A 5th Wheel is a type of RV that has a hitch, allowing the driver to tow it behind a larger vehicle. A 5th Wheel is preferred by many because it provides the space of something larger, without being a “house on wheels” like many RVs.

SoftStartRV Kit Vs. Micro-Air EasyStart Soft Start

Grab your camping gear, hop in the trailer, and join the club of RVers who have stayed cooler and reduced the power surge that typically occurs with air conditioner startup.

SoftStartRV vs. easystart soft starter comparison

SoftStartRV Soft Starter Vs. Micro-Air EasyStart Soft Start

You may have seen the Micro-Air EasyStart, also known as Micro-Air EasyStart 364 Soft Starter ASY-364-X20-IP, available on Amazon, from social media posts, or other online retailers. Maybe you even read reviews on the EasyStart on websites like Trailer Life, and read other reviews for the SoftStartRV on RVLife, DoItYourselfRV, or by Mike Sokol of RVTravel. Allow us to share why we believe the SoftStartRV beats out our biggest competition of Micro-Air any day. Micro-Air’s EasyStart is a good product. Ours is better because of the technology and the added benefits.

Which soft starter is easier to install in your RV AC? Perhaps the most intimidating part of purchasing any A/C soft starter is the installation process. Most RVers are not professional electricians, and no one wants to second guess their soft start and compressor installation while on top of their trailer in the hot sun.

Unfortunately, buyers may not be aware of some common EasyStart problems.

Multiple Restarts Required: The first problem is that during installation you need to start your air conditioner 5 different times, while giving 3 minutes in between restarts for the compressor to equalize. Not only does this require 110v campground electrical power, it adds an additional 15 minutes in the hot sun for installation, which may require users to climb on top of the RV rooftop to check the compressor or it WILL need additional technician installation time.

With softStartRV, there is no need for a “learning cycle”, and no additional startups needed. This cuts down on installation time, as the SoftStartRV operates right out of the box.

Plus, a unique advantage of the SoftStartRV installation process is that every SoftStartRV provides compressor overload protection.

member gear display board life run Live rooftop tech support power posts control airstream casita

No live rooftop tech support: The second problem with MicroAir’s EasyStart is a lack of installation resources.

Micro Air offers instructions for installation available on their website, in addition to a few installation Youtube videos.

How can SoftStartRV guide you through your installation process? When you purchase a SoftStartRV, we provide installation instructions on our website, plus several installation youtube tutorial videos, wiring diagrams, and most importantly LIVE tech support on your rooftop!

The SoftStartRV customer service is unparalleled. SoftStartRV gives you the control, and actually guides you through your installation in real time: no second guessing, no accidents with your air conditioner, no time wasted in the hot sun. SoftStartRV gives you the power and the peace of mind of a trained A/C technical support professional.

No more searching for answers on RV forum posts or trying to get a real human on the phone. When you purchase a SoftStartRV, included in your purchase is a dedicated tech team to guide you through the 5-wire installation on your RV step by step.

Our YouTube friends John and Mercedes of RV Odd Couple shared that with the on call LIVE tech support, installing their SoftStartRV was easy. Take a look at how simple their RV soft start installation was in this video clip:

How much does the EasyStart cost? The Micro-Air EasyStart364 is currently for sale on their website for $299 plus shipping. Or you could purchase the EasyStart on Amazon for $299. This $299 price tag only includes the soft starter.

What does the purchase of an EasyStart include? You won’t receive the install kit, which is necessary to actually connect the product. Their installation kit costs an additional $9-10. And if you are dissatisfied with your EasyStart and want to return it, you’ll need to pay a 25% restocking fee. This means if you are dissatisfied for any reason, or simply want to change your mind, it will cost you $74.75 for the restocking fee, plus the return shipping of between $10-15 depending on location.

Included in your SoftStartRV purchase is a free 2 year warranty.

    Warranty:

What does EasyStart warranty cover? Although EasyStart now offers an included 2-year warranty, be careful to read the fine print, which states “Consequential damages are excluded from this Warranty.”

With the SoftStartRV, pay $299 and receive:

Do customers have problems with the EasyStart? Some customers have reported problems with their EasyStart affecting the A/C performance. Don’t believe us? Take a look at a few of the Easy Start review Amazon posts:

One EasyStart customer said “The RV has the extreme package and was designed for extreme heat/cold with extra insulation etc. I was able to cool it as much as I wanted prior to installing the Micro-Air. I would not recommend this unit if you plan on ever using your RV in a location with temps above the low 90’s until they make a unit with an appropriately sized capacitor that allows for a shorter “cool down” period.” (See the full Micro Air Easy Start review here.)

Another EasyStart review reads “I could not get the unit to operate no matter what I did. No warning lights, no indication why.” (See the full Micro-Air Soft Start reviews here.

As a reminder, another problem with MicroAir’s Easy Start is that the product requires 5 restarts to train the AC, which can take about 15 minutes. The SoftStartRV does not require any restarts to train your AC, as it automatically maximizes the amp reduction.

    SoftStartRV Solutions

With dedicated tech support, we ensure any potential problem you have with your product installation on your RV is handled live over the phone.

Installation instructions, a wiring diagram, video links, and great tech support are all available, as is a Bonus Install Kit. Not feeling up to it? SoftStartRV A/C soft starters are a breeze for any professional RV tech to install, typically in under 45 minutes per unit.”

Another Amazon customer reviewed the SoftStartRV saying “I first miss-wired the unit. The instructions for my type of air conditioner were unclear. Opened up a support ticket and sent pictures. Literally within the hour tech support called and left a message on what we had done wrong. All’s well that ends well. Tech support is supper and the product is doing just what it says it will do. VERY HAPPY CAMPER.” (Read full SoftStartRV Amazon reviews here.)

    RV Soft Starters Price Comparison

In this guide, we will review:

SoftStartRV Kit Vs. Micro-Air EasyStart Soft Start

SoftStartRV Kit Vs. Dometic SmartStart III Soft Start

SoftStartRV Kit Vs. Sure Start Soft Starter

Grab your camping gear, hop in the trailer, and join the club of RVers who have stayed cooler and reduced the power surge that typically occurs with A/C startup.

Perhaps the most intimidating part of purchasing any A/C soft starter is the installation process. Most RVers are not professional electricians, and no one wants to second guess their soft start and compressor installation while on top of their trailer in the hot sun.

Unfortunately, buyers may not be aware of common EasyStart problems.

Multiple Restarts Required: The first problem is that during installation you need to start your air conditioner 5 different times, while giving 3 minutes in between restarts for the compressor to equalize. Not only does this require shore power, it adds an additional 15 minutes in the hot sun for installation, which may require users to climb on top of the RV rooftop to check the compressor.

With softStartRV, there is no need for a “learning cycle”, and no additional startups needed. This cuts down on installation time, as the SoftStartRV operates right out of the box.

Plus, a unique advantage of the SoftStartRV installation process is that every SoftStartRV includes a 5th wire. This wire is designed to provide compressor overload protection.

member gear display board life run Live rooftop tech support power posts control airstream casita

No live rooftop tech support: The second problem with MicroAir’s EasyStart is a lack of installation resources.

Micro Air offers instructions for installation available on their website, in addition to a few installation Youtube videos.

When you purchase a SoftStartRV, we provide installation instructions on our website, plus several installation youtube tutorial videos, wiring diagrams, and most importantly LIVE tech support on your rooftop!

The SoftStartRV customer service is unparalleled. SoftStartRV actually guides you through your installation in real time: no second guessing, no accidents, no time wasted in the hot sun. SoftStartRV gives you the power and the peace of mind of a trained A/C technical support professional.

No more searching for answers on RV forum posts or trying to get a real human on the phone. When you purchase a SoftStartRV, included in your purchase is a dedicated tech team to guide you through the 5-wire installation step by step.

Our YouTube friends John and Mercedes of RV Odd Couple shared that with the on call LIVE tech support, installing their SoftStartRV was easy. Take a look at how simple their RV soft start installation was in this video clip

The Micro-Air EasyStart364 is currently for sale on their website for $299 plus shipping. Or you could purchase the EasyStart on Amazon for $299. With this purchase you only receive the soft start itself.

Warranty: Although EasyStart now offers an included 2-year warranty, be careful to read the fine print, which states “Consequential damages are excluded from this Warranty.”

With the SoftStartRV, pay $299 and receive:

    Micro Air EasyStart Problems

Some customers have reported problems with their EasyStart affecting the A/C performance. Don’t believe us? Take a look at a few of the Easy Start Amazon reviews:

With dedicated tech support, we ensure any potential problem you have with your product installation is handled live over the phone.

Check out this review from RV Life “Installation of the SoftStartRV A/C soft start is a snap for any handy RVer.

In addition, installation is even easier with our 3 easy to read LED lights that indicate operating status. SoftStartRV customers love the green LED light, which indicates that everything is running properly.

SoftStartRV vs. dometic smartstart soft starter comparison

SoftStartRV Kit Vs. Dometic Soft Start

Another option floating around on the market is the Dometic Soft Start, also known as the SmartStart III. The soft start for Dometic rooftop A/C units may feel like a tempting offer. After all, Dometic is a trusted, big name brand with years of products and pedigree behind them. While Dometic’s product may be good for some, SoftStartRV is best for RVers. The SoftStartRV by NetworkRV remains a superior product to run the A/C unit in your RV, travel trailer, 5th wheel or camper.

Dometic Soft Start Installation vs. SoftStartRV Installation

You may notice that the SmartStart III is only advertised as a marine product on Dometic’s website. While a select few may have the insider understanding that this product is potentially capable of working with RV air conditioners, Dometic does not display installation instructions for RVers on their website. Dometic provides no FAQs on the Smart Start online. There is one installation instruction sheet available online – a single page PDF. There is no Dometic live RV installation support. If you are looking for RV installation help, your only option is to contact a local RV dealer.

SoftStartRV has a dedicated customer service email, phone number, and ticket system to get your installation questions solved quickly with the support of a professional. We understand that customers want to access installation instructions online and that many customers prefer to watch a quick installation video on Youtube before calling customer support. With SoftStartRV, we give you options to keep you in control of your schedule, so you can spend more time in your RV life of adventure.

Dometic SmartStart III Price Vs. SoftStartRV Price

You can find the Dometic soft start for sale with Sure Marine for $610. This does not include the install kit, dedicated tech support for RVers, or a money back guarantee. We offer the SoftStartRV product for $299. (See complete price breakdown on our Products Page).

    Dometic SmartStart III Problems

Because Dometic is focused primarily on boaters and marine customers, finding resources for using your SmartStart III in an RV is a challenge for Do It Yourself RVers. Dometic recommends that you hire a trained technical professional to install their product, meaning you’ll need to spend even more money on your installation.

Dometic Smart Start III Customer Service vs. SoftStartRV Customer Service

Dometic’s customer service for the SmartStart III is nonexistent for consumers. Dometic customer service remains a service only available to dealers. You may notice that their website does not offer a dedicated customer service phone number or email address. Dometic requires customers and potential buyers to contact a dealer.

Dometic SmartStart Reviews vs. SoftStartRV by NetworkRV Reviews

Dometic is not transparent with customer reviews on the SmartStart III. You will see no customer reviews for this product on their website, and because it is not available from the online retailer Amazon, where many potential customers search to find verified reviews before purchasing, there is no way to determine if the Dometic SmartStart III is the right product for your unique needs as an RVer.

Curious about the SoftStartRV product reviews? See our high ratings on Amazon from verified purchasers, watch SoftStartRV reviewed by real people on Youtube, and find customer testimonials on our website.

Sure Start Vs. SoftStartRV Soft Starter

Another option for your RV air conditioner is the Sure Start made by Hyper Engineering. Like the SoftStartRV, the Sure Start also enables you to start your A/C while still protecting the compressor.

While Sure Start does offer an LED light display, it’s less straightforward than the SoftStartRV and while electricians can install it, a regular Joe may not have the same experience. With SoftStartRV, 3 Helpful LEDs Show Status: Start, Run, And Fault. In addition, SoftStartRV has a Built-In Start Capacitor.

Sure Start Installation Vs. SoftStartRV Installation

Though Hyper Engineering is another well known brand, their Sure Start does not uniquely differentiate itself from Dometic’s SmartStart in terms of DIY or RV consumer support. Without comparable customer service, installation becomes challenging quickly. You deserve to be able to have easy-to-use, live technical support.

With SoftStartRV, enjoy cool summer days in the A/C and better sleep at night, no more thumping or trailer shaking as your compressor starts up in the middle of the night. A quick install process with SoftStartRV means you can run one air conditioner, or two air conditioners using your onboard inverter with two SoftStarRVs.

One customer describes the SoftStartRV installation process as,

The assistance from your technician Phil was top notch. Each step was described clearly and without error. I enjoyed my discussions, even after my phone quit and a time zone glitch, but everything went great… I have already contacted two of my RV friends and told them about the soft start add on. I believe they will follow up and modify their units. Thanks again for great service.

Sure Start Price vs. SoftStartRV Price

You can find the Sure Start available on the web for $299. However, this price only includes 1 year of warranty, versus the SoftStartRV’s free 2-year warranty offer. To date, Hyper Engineering does not offer tech support to guide you in the installation process, nor do they provide installation tutorial videos.

Sure Start Customer Service vs. SoftStartRV Customer Service

Because Sure Start does not offer tech support with your purchase, customers will need to hire a professional if they run into trouble installing, costing them more money. Air conditioning soft starters can be easy to install for many handy RVers or challenging, which is why SoftStartRV always offers unparalleled customer service.

With the SoftStartRV online ticket system, you control when you want to talk around your schedule. No need to wait on hold or wait by the phone for a team member to call you back. Simply set your time and date, and we’ll arrange to discuss your situation anytime Monday through Friday 9 AM – 6 PM EST, and Saturdays 10 AM to 4 PM.

SoftStartRV Features Vs. Competitor Soft Starter Features

RV INDUSTRY VETERAN LAUNCHES A/C SOFT START KIT FOR CAMPERS

Fort Lauderdale, FL: With RV sales at a record high and more Americans working from home than ever, NetworkRV launched a new product that provides a smart solution for RVers: the SoftStartRV. The SoftStartRV is an accessory for RV air conditioners, which controls and regulates the voltage intelligently. This enables RVers to start their A/C in low power situations, campgrounds and while boondocking. Whether campers want to run two air conditioners at once, or simply utilize a small generator to the highest capability, the SoftStartRV empowers customers to stay cool anywhere, anytime.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate our 4-Year Anniversary with adding our SoftStartRV to our list of products at NetworkRV,” RV Industry Veteran Doug Curtis, Co-Founder, said. “This revolutionizes A/C comfort capabilities for adventurers, RVers and off-road campers to stay cool as they escape COVID confinement and explore the great outdoors.”

    Benefits of the SoftStartRV include:

    • Start two air conditioners on a 30-amp hookup.
    • Start one air conditioner using only a small portable generator.
    • Start one air conditioner on 20-amp household current.
    • Start one or two air conditioners using your onboard inverter system.

The SoftStartRV is now available for sale with NetworkRV at www.softstartrv.com/pr2. For a limited time, buyers can receive special pricing for SoftStartRV by NetworkRV’s Anniversary Sale, including $30 off the purchase of 1 SoftStartRV. Find high-res photos at https://softstartrv.com/productshots/.

  • I Have Two 15,000 BTU A/C Units On My Fifth Wheel, Will A SoftStartRV Help Me

I Have Two 15,000 BTU A/C Units On My Fifth Wheel, Will A SoftStartRV Help Me

I Have Two 15,000 BTU A/C Units On My Fifth Wheel

Would A SoftstartRV Help Me On Starting Them?

And Can I Reduce The Size Of Generator I Need To Haul Around?

In order to reduce the size of your generator and still run 2 15kBTU Air conditioners at the same time of one 30 amp hookup, you need to install 2 SoftStartRV units, one on each A/C.

Of course, the total wattage required by two 15kBTU systems would not leave much “electrical room” for other appliances on a 30 amp cord, but the fact that you can now do this type of operation speaks to the powerful features and benefits of the SoftStartRV.

You will need to plan for approximately 1,800Watts for each of your 15k A/Cs, equaling 3,600 total Watts.

Think about the need for power to your other appliances, such as your water heater, your microwave and your refrigerator. Perhaps you have a converter/battery charger as well.

Then plan for whatever power management you are ok with.

The really good news is you will not require any extra generator capacity for the startup of your 2 A/C units since 2 SoftStartRV units – one on

each A/C, will reduce the starting surge to be only a few amps higher than the steady-state power requirement of your two Air Conditioners. A single Honda 2000 or a Yamaha 2000 generator or similar should get the job done nicely with 2 SoftStartRV units.

To purchase one or more SoftStartRV units direct, go to: https://softstartrv.com/offer

  • Can I Use A Coleman Mach 3+ Air Conditioner With A Yamaha EF2200iiiS Generator And A SoftStartRV? Will This Combination Work?

Can I Use A Coleman Mach 3+ Air Conditioner With A Yamaha EF2200iiiS Generator And A SoftStartRV? Will This Combination Work?

Can I Use A Coleman Mach 3+ Air Conditioner With A Yamaha EF2000iS Generator And A SoftStartRV? Will This Combination Work?

We’ve had some customers install SoftStartRV units into 13.5K or 15K BTU A/Cs and start and run them on 2,000 Watt generators successfully.

Unfortunately some customers found that not all 2,000 Watt generators are built the same – as is the case with the Yamaha EF2000is.

We have multiple confirmed cases of our SoftStartRV unit being successfully installed and running great on the following 2000 Watt generators:

    – Honda EU2000i

    – Westinghouse 2000iXLT

    – Yamaha EF2000iSv2

If your Yamaha generator is the older model EF2000is, perhaps a non v2 model, then our SoftStartRV unit will probably not work for your situation.

We came across this issue a few months ago, and we discussed it in an online forum. Several people were able to research and find out that Yamaha – in an attempt to compete with the Honda 2000 Watt generators, realized that their original EF2000iS 2000 Watt generator was truly not 2,000 Watt!

So in an effort to compensate, Yamaha had to make design changes and introduce the v2 model that is now on a par with a Honda EU2000i.

To recap: The older Yamaha like yours (assuming it’s the Yamaha EF2000is cannot sustain much power above 1,600 Watts from the A/C starter, so since most RVs A/C units are in the neighborhood of 1,750 Watt especially on hot days, the older Yamaha models were always declaring an overload fault above 1,600 Watts. This is well under 2,000 Watts.

It turns out the generator really needs to be able to sustain close to 2,000 Watts in order to keep any RV A/C running. And it also needs to have at least some additional room for any other auxiliary electrical loads in your RV.

Solution: Purchase a Yamaha 2000 Watt EF2000iSv2 or a Honda or a Westinghouse making sure the Wattage is 2,000 or more. Then get a SoftStartRV and install that for total freedom from 20 or 30 amp hookups. Go into the boonies with freedom and cool air anywhere.

Will A Champion 2200iiW Generator Start My RV A/C?

Will A Champion 2000W Generator Start My RV A/C?

Question. Will a Champion 2000 inverter start my Dometic RV A/C at 13.5 with a SoftStartRV and have you tried this combination?

Yes we have tried this combination. Because of the lower cost over similar size generators, we have had several inquiries about using our SoftStartRV with this generator, the Champion 2000, model number 73536.

Several months ago a customer purchased a SoftStartRV and she was operating its 13.5 BTU A/C on this particular Champion model.

Unlike the great SoftStartRV successes we’ve seen with customers who own the Honda 2000i or the Yamaha EF 2000i or a couple of other very popular inverter generators; the Champion 2000 did not stack up to be the same type of generator.

We found that even with the contractors that installed this Champion they could not start the 15K Dometic penguin, even though our Honda 2000i could start the A/C – even with the eco-mode turned on. So the conclusion was that the Champion 2000 is truly not a 2000W generator.

The largest AC we could start and run on this Champion 2000W with SoftStartRV installed was a 9 KBTU Marine unit.

We don’t recommend you purchase a SoftStartRV if you want to purchase – or already own – a Champion 2000W. We were equally as disappointed since the combination would’ve been a very low-cost solution for many customers. The Champion 2000W doesn’t even come close to the Honda 20001 or the Yamaha EF 2000i.

Buy a Honda 2000 or a Yamaha 2000 instead, if you want your A/C to run with a SoftStartRV.

  • Is There A Way To Run Two AC’s Off Of One SoftStartRV Unit.

Is There A Way To Run Two AC’s Off Of One SoftStartRV Unit.

Is There A Way To Run Two AC’s Off Of One SoftStartRV Unit.

I’d like to design a solar system for my new Airstream with 13,500 and 15,000 BTU units.

It is possible electrically to wire a single SoftStartRV into 2 A/C units, but it would compromise the SoftStartRV’s ability to monitor each of the A/C compressors during their run time. It would also probably cost more than just buying a 2nd SoftStartRV due to the need for additional wiring in between both Rooftop A/C units, and the labor costs. Also the wiring needed between the A/C units, together with the power relay switching devices connecting the wires to one compressor at a time, would end up being a veritable disaster. Sorry. This is not a sales pitch to sell 2 SoftStartRV units.

Some of our customers that have 2 A/C units designate just one A/C as the only A/C they will use when they're operating on their stand-alone 2,000 Watt generator. Their choice in doing this is a trade-off in the ability to run both A/Cs on a single 30 amp hookup – or on 2 generators in parallel, since not everyone can afford 2 SoftStartRV units.

If you intend to setup a solar type system with a single 4,000 Watt inverter to run both Air Conditioners, you would be better served installing a SoftStartRV into both A/C units. This way, it will not matter which A/C is cycling on at any given time.

The same situation would apply with a 30 amp utility hookup of 3,600 Watts after an install into an Airstream with both a 13.5k and a 15k BTU A/C. If you want to only run one A/C with your solar system of 2,000 Watts, then you'd only need a single SoftStartRV and you'd have to choose the A/C that would only be powered on when using the inverter as the power source.

  • I Have Two Roof-Mounted Dometic A/C Units. Do I Need Two SoftStartRV Units?

I Have Two Roof-Mounted Dometic A/C Units. Do I Need Two SoftStartRV Units?

I Have Two Roof-Mounted Dometic A/C Units. Do I Need Two SoftStartRV Units?

Will the one Honda EU2000i generator be enough, or will I need to hook up my second one as well? I do have both the EU2000i and the Companion one, but I was hoping that I could get away with only having to carry one on our trips. I have a 2,000 watt inverter in addition to a Converter. I have 4 x 12volt deep cycle batteries on board as well as a Dometic refrigerator.

Your combination of a Dometic 13.5k and 15k rooftop A/C is actually quite common. Our customers have lots of installations into configurations of this type.

    You have 2 basic choices:

    a) If you only want to carry one generator,

choose an A/C unit into which you will install the SoftStartRV, and that will be the only A/C that will need the SoftStartRV.

That will be the only A/C you can operate when you are just using a Honda EU2000i. If you go this route, we recommend you choose the smaller 13.5k A/C since that will leave your more electrical space on the generator to supply some auxiliary loads in your trailer to other appliances like your Dometic refrigerator.

These auxiliary loads will be limited…

    b) If you want to carry both generators to run both A/Cs, or if you want to be able to run both A/Cs on a single 30A cord, then you would need to install a SoftStartRV on both A/Cs.

Customers tell us that being able to run both A/Cs in hot weather conditions is really a necessity because one A/C can’t typically keep up with the cool air needed in a larger trailer.

Also, being able to run both A/Cs on a 30 amp hookup instead of having to find the more elusive 50amp hookups is also a huge advantage.

The auxiliary load is a very important point to consider when it comes to your total generator capacity and how much you want to have to worry – or not – about power management.

You mentioned the Dometic refrigerator, which can draw upwards of 800 Watts, and a converter which can draw up to 1,000 Watts in rapid charge mode when lighting and other appliances are turned on.

Those two items – under certain conditions – could almost completely use the entire output from one Honda EU2000i generator. Add that to the consumption of your A/Cs units, 1,600 Watt for the 13.5k and 1,750Watt for the 15k, and you can easily see that you need one generator to handle one A/C and perhaps some small auxiliary loads of no more than 200-300W, and a second generator to handle the other more substantial auxiliary loads like your big refrigerator and converter.

Ideally, two 2,000 Watt generators and 2 SoftStartRV units on each A/C would work nicely, without having to be concerned about power management.
